Hi everyone,
This is Jasmine.
Pavio (1971) proposed that in the storage, processing and retrieval of information, verbal and non-verbal information processing are equally important. Because human cognition is unique, it is dedicated to processing verbal and nonverbal things and events at the same time. In addition, the language system is special. It directly processes the input and output of language in oral and written forms. At the same time, it preserves symbolic functions related to non-verbal things, events, and behaviors.
I remember that when I was reading comprehension, the teacher would often use some pictures to make us feel what the protagonist in the story experienced, which would help us better understand the whole event. I think this is the use of dual coding theory in teaching.
I think when I was an educator, I would still choose to apply dual coding theory to my classroom.
Thanks.

Hello Jasmine,
How are you doing?
I think most of the teacher use dual coding theory to deliver their lacture. Because every teacher want to provide quality of education to the students that is possible only when teacher bring the attention of students in learning. For that, they use audio-visual aids.
In this way, the recall power of students can also be improved. Because sometime we can recall any information by memorizing the picture or video seen in our past.
Thanks
Hello Yan Ren,
It is really interesting to see how most of us are excitedly writing about Dual Coding Theory. Seems it is a favorite of us all. The reason for this is -simple, practical, and reflective explanation of the theory and its significant impact on the learning process. Creating mind maps, pictures, illustrations always helps to retain more efficiently. It is commonly observed that when we talk to each other, we start to imagine and start to create visuals in our brains. This results in better understanding. Uses of graphics, emojis, and gifs indicate our attraction towards the visual world. Nowadays, school textbooks contain pictures, graphs, maps, flow diagrams, colorful texts to create better learning. For better learning outcomes, an educator needs to know how many of the students are visualizers and verbalizers.
HI JASMINE,
Thank you for sharing, oral and non-verbal information processing are equally important. When I was in school, the teacher would also use some pictures to help us understand the content and background of the article. I think double coding theory is a useful method.
