Dual Coding Theory
According to Paivio, A., our memory has two different codes, one is for visuals and others is for words and when information is saved into both then this results into long term memory. Thus, it is necessary to use dual coding theory, that is words with visuals.
I have been teaching science and for that I use this theory frequently. I often use charts, 3-D models, videos of scientific processes and pictorial representations. In addition, I cite books having all the images related to terms. I believe that the topics without visuals are complicated to understand as the teaching learning process is related to our lives, for the betterment of our lives so those visuals should be there. However, some of these can be distracting, when they are inappropriate, so it is important to choose a valuable visual for any topic.

Hello Kamaldeep,
Hope everything is going well.
I completely agree with you that without audio-visual aids, the learning is quite boring. In addition, the science subject can not be teach without using multiple teaching aids. The students can not grasp the things in better way until they do not see the real life process.
I have a question, if you are science teacher, than definitely you teach physics portion as well as, how you teach that mean the derivations? Which visual aid you use for it?
Thanks
Hello Kamaldeep,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Dual Coding theory. By our basic nature, we humans are always attracted to soothing and associating sounds, colorful and meaningful images. This basic human nature works in the learning of new knowledge. Students of all ages learn more enthusiastically when the educator’s verbal lessons are supported with the help of diagrams, pictures, graphs, movies, videos, etc. It enhances the quality of learning and the delivery of lessons. Anyhow, solely using Dual coding in the classroom is not sufficient enough, when we talk about inclusive classrooms. This theory with other theories can be one part of the learning process. I agree with you, inappropriate and non-related images can create a distraction in the classroom, that is where our role as an educator, as a compass, as a guide becomes crucial.
Best Regards.
