I would choose Spiral to discuss based on SECTION models.
Spiral is a teaching tool that allows teachers to communicate with students through an online platform. It is accessible from most internet connected devices (computers, tablets, phones). This application is for students over 13 years old. To be specific, Spiral helps teachers in launching an activity or posting and assignment in which students’ answers appear live and teachers can review, grade and feedback offline.
Based on Bates’s SECTIONS models:
- Ease of use: Spiral is easy to use as no app’s installment, no download requirement. All needed is just a teacher’s email account, internet, and digital devices. The interface design is clear and simple.
- Costs: Spiral is free
- Organizational issue: Spiral does not require integration with a school Learning Management System.
- Security and Privacy: Spiral complies with GDPR, FERPA, and COPPA
Kate, I am not familiar with Spirals, but am very interested in knowing more about it. You mention that it complies with GDPR, FERPA, and COPPA, but does it also comply with FIPPA? I am not sure how these other one match up with FIPPA. Also, how do students access the app? Does it require a password and do teachers have to put in personal information when first setting the app up?
