Consider any technology and evaluate its effectiveness by using any 3 aspects of Bates’ SECTIONS model.
Combined with the S of the Bates’ SECTIONS model, I think remote learning can focus more on the needs of students than traditional classrooms. In China, the teaching resources of some remote cities are far inferior to those of big cities like Beijing and Shanghai. Because of insufficient learning resources for students studying in remote cities, it is difficult to meet the learning needs of some students. Remote learning helps to shorten the gap between learning resources in different cities, and it can provide more learning opportunities for different students. E means easy to use. If students want to use remote learning, they need to have a mobile device first, which is not hard to get one for current students. Similarly, I think it is not difficult for current students to learn to use remote learning. In addition, the cost of remote learning is not high. It does not require educators to provide a real room for students. Virtual rooms can accommodate more students than traditional classrooms, which means that more students can study the same course at the same time. This also makes remote learning cheaper and even some online courses are free.
As a current or future educator, how do you deal with student’s preference for different technologies?
I think I will pay attention to students’ preferences for different technologies and strive to meet their learning needs. For homework, I think I will expand the mode of submission of homework so that students can use their preferred technology to complete their homework.
Hello Ruili,
I hope you doing well. I agree with what you said about remote learning. I think of a friend of mine living in a village in China, where there are very few high-level English teaching resources, and my friend did not have high financial ability to support him to study English in a big city. But in recent years, with the development of online classrooms, my friend’s situation has improved. He can easily have the same resources as students in big cities and study at home.
Thanks,
Leason
Hi Ruili!
I agree with you that distance learning can indeed bring convenience to students in poor areas who cannot receive education. This is the benefit that technology brings to us now, making learning not a difficult thing for us.
