I think using VR in some courses can help students better understand what they have learned. One of the characteristics of VR is its immersion, which allows users to feel that the virtual world they enter is the real world. In courses such as history class, universe science class, and multicultural society class, if educators are telling knowledge, they also use VR technology to let students see some buildings, some planets, certain races, which will help students absorb knowledge. When I was studying the international journalism class, our teacher used augmented reality to show us a certain news scene. I felt that when I arrived at the “news scene”, I could easily understand some news points the teacher said. From my experience, I think that any knowledge that allows students to visualized can use VR technology, but I have to say that the cost of using this technology is relatively high. Therefore, educators can use VR technology as a teaching aid in some needed courses based on their own judgment.
For the challenges that educators will face, I think different technologies will bring different challenges, so educators need to choose some appropriate technology for their students based on their own judgment when using technology. When using VR, the challenge for educators may be that students will have certain physical discomforts, such as dizziness, nausea, etc., and teaching costs will increase.
Hi Ruili Jin,
Thanks for your views on implementing technology in education. I agree that VR has been proved beneficial in learning different subjects, and students can experience their learning visually. Your experience of using augmented reality in your journalism course was informative. I could learn about even journalism students use this technology for a better understanding of the perception of their courses.
