How UDL was implemented in the classroom?
UDL consists of three principles: multiple means of representation, multiple means of action and expression, and multiple means of engagement. Teaching is in vain when lessons and knowledge fail to reach students. Properly implemented UDL principles ensure that the expectations and needs of students of all backgrounds and abilities are satisfied. It is therefore prudent to share a few concrete suggestions for putting UDL into effect in any classroom. Although organized by UDL principle, it should be noted that some of the examples below fall under more than one principle; however, to avoid redundancies we elected to limit them to a single category.
Creating a UDL for ELLLO
I think ELLLO, which I evaluated earlier, is a good tool for creating UDL. There are a variety of topics and levels of English listening materials to suit students of all levels and preferences.
Hi Xinlu. Thank you for your comments. I like how you conveyed the principles of UDL, particularly the importance of creating a curriculum that meets the needs of all learners. I would have liked to read some examples from your own experiences as a student or teacher (if you have any) because as an instructor, I like to compare different approaches to my own in order to broaden my teaching perspectives. And I agree with your comment, “Teaching is in vain when lessons and knowledge fail to reach students.”
Thank you Xinlu for your post and insight into what UDL is. I would love to know what specific attributes of the ELLLO app fall under Universal Design for Learning. I think it would be great information for those who would possibly add the app to their toolkits.
Hi Xinlu,
I agree with the view that teaching is useless if the curriculum and knowledge cannot be understood by students. The target of teaching services is students, so educators should find ways to help students break down learning barriers and help them learn better.
Thanks
Hi Chen,
I believe you gave a better perspective of UDL and creating a curriculum which meets everyone needs.
And am looking forwards to explore ELLO app, but I think you did not mention about specific use of this app in your post. It would be a great help to know little about the app before trying it.
Thanks for sharing your post.
Azeez.
Dear xinlu,
Thank you for sharing.
I think that you give us a good definition for UDL.
UDL consists of three principles: multiple means of representation, multiple means of action and expression, and multiple means of engagement.
Best wishes
Hi Iris,
Thank you for sharing, I very much agree with your point that when the course cannot be taught to students, this course is invalid. Therefore, we need to use the UDL method in the classroom to open the classroom to all students.
Take care
