The TPI and flipped classroom
I think the results of my TPI are more in line with my own perception of the role of teachers. First I got the highest score for Nurturing with Total 37 points, and the second was Developmental with Total 35 points. According to my own understanding, just like Nurturing’s definition, teaching should be the teaching of the heart rather than the work of the brain. If you can give students a good environment, let them learn without fear and without fear, the best results will be achieved. The role of the teacher is only to encourage and challenge students.
The flipped classroom is a very interesting concept. In this concept, the role of the teacher is exchanged. A student-centered classroom can better allow students to actively participate in learning without the teacher giving them step-by-step teaching. The advantages are obvious, and students can get better attention. There are also certain disadvantages. If the teacher can’t control the purpose of the whole class, it may cause confusion.
In my answer to the TPI question, I sorry to say that I have no actual teaching experience, so most of the questions are just what I imagined I would do if I became a teacher. If I actually enter the classroom, my behavior and my answer will conflict. It is also great tool to helping me understand my role as a teacher and help me prepared for my future teaching career.
I appreciate your honesty and authentic reflection on your TPI results. It is tough to envision what your scores may be when you begin your teaching career but I think you have great understanding of the type of teacher you would like to portray. Creating an environment where students lack fear and are encouraged to be themselves is the ultimate goal so that learning can happen in an optimal way.
